Lanolin is a natural mixture of wax esters and fatty acids and alcohols produced by sheep to protect wool fibres (wool grease). Lanolin declined in Australia as toxins such as DDT and arsenic became popular for sheep dips. Later on these toxic chemicals were banned due to the damage to the environment so lanolin has been “born again”.
